Candidate

  • Upstream canonical URL: https://github.com/honix/Lire
  • Source pinned commit/release when known: 36c18b8944919ef428ed856935746955a4cc38cc on master (default branch snapshot reviewed 2026-08-14).
  • Target concrete installed deliverable: Lire Common Lisp visual programming/editor application
  • Primary category: desktop-application
  • Tags: common-lisp
  • Primary language normalized: Common Lisp
  • Build system: Custom Common Lisp source (no ASDF/Quicklisp manifest; lire.lisp and companion files)
  • SPDX expression: MIT
  • License status: confirmed-free
  • License evidence: LICENSE contains MIT; README describes Lire as a Common Lisp visual Lisp-expression editor.
  • Difficulty: hard — Document the implementation/runtime dependencies and create a reproducible launcher; the repository has no package/build manifest and appears thesis-stage.
  • Workflow state: research
  • Existing Guix coverage: Checked 2026-08-14: GNU Guix, Nonguix, Guix Science, Guix HPC, Guix Past, Guix 'R Us, and RDE; no equivalent package with the same upstream origin was found.

Scope and blockers

Package the pinned upstream source as the stated deliverable, retaining upstream notices and making runtime services, credentials, downloaded assets, and optional integrations explicit. Document the implementation/runtime dependencies and create a reproducible launcher; the repository has no package/build manifest and appears thesis-stage.

Acceptance checks

  • guix lint -L. lire passes with no new errors.
  • guix build -L. lire succeeds from the pinned source with tests enabled where practical.
  • App-specific offline smoke: Run the pinned launcher under Xvfb with a local sample expression and no network, after the missing dependency contract is documented.

Goocastle recorded disposition: blocked.

Blocked at pinned upstream revision 36c18b8944919ef428ed856935746955a4cc38cc of https://github.com/honix/Lire. The parent repository carries MIT, but required runtime input media/saxmono.ttf is a 1999 s.a.x. Software sample font whose embedded name record grants circulation and use while explicitly forbidding alteration/rename/copyright changes and gives no free-software redistribution or modification grant; the identical pinned commit introduced it, so it cannot be patched, converted, or substituted without changing upstream provenance. A Guix source package cannot safely redistribute this asset, and no reviewed channel contains this canonical origin (searched guix/tay/packages on 2026-09-21). The daemonless environment also prevented guix lint/build validation, but that limitation is secondary. The launcher is an interactive SBCL GLUT/OpenGL application: lire.lisp hard-runs run-lire and launches a display window; it exposes no documented noninteractive/headless or deterministic smoke mode. It also requires Quicklisp-style systems (:swank, :bordeaux-threads, :cl-opengl, :cl-glut, :sdl2-ttf, :cl-anonfun), SBCL, SDL2_ttf/OpenGL/GLUT libraries, and relative paths to source files and media. Unblocking requires both (1) authoritative redistribution terms for media/saxmono.ttf at this revision permitting Guix redistribution, or a documented upstream change/substitution that preserves the intended deliverable without modifying the restricted font, and (2) an upstream or packaged-wrapper non-GUI smoke contract that meaningfully loads/initializes the implementation without credentials, network, or a display-dependent open loop. Until then, no safe, source-buildable, smoke-provable package delivery is actionable.
