User-facing deliverable

Maintained Python 3 successor to Lyntin, providing a lightweight terminal MUD client with Python extensibility.

Packaging approach

Use pyproject-build-system against the PyPI sdist and install the console entry point; keep the package name distinct from the archived original Lyntin.

Known blockers and investigation points

Upstream's GitLab currently redirects anonymous users to sign-in, so provenance and update checks should rely on the published sdist unless access changes.

Acceptance checks

Pin an immutable upstream release or commit and record a real Guix source hash.
Build without network access using Guix-provided dependencies; do not download runtimes or plugins during the build.
Preserve all applicable project and bundled-component license notices.
Verify the installed launcher/version output and run an offline protocol smoke test against a local fake MUD endpoint where the platform permits it.
Keep profiles, logs, maps, plugins, and other mutable state outside the store.

Checked on 2026-08-22 against GNU Guix, Nonguix, Guix Science, Guix HPC, Guix Past, Guix R Us, and RDE, plus all states of this repository issue tracker. No same-upstream package or existing ticket was found. GNU Guix already packages TinTin++ and POWWOW; this candidate is distinct.

Implemented and published in signed commit 930326ddab.

Packaged lyntinv/Lyntin V 5.0.1 from PyPI (GPL-3.0-or-later, based on the source headers). The final output is /gnu/store/lmqhsm2v8c0yqjc7qgxbv5jgj438145k-lyntin-5.0.1.

Verification:

real Guix build and --no-substitutes --check rebuild passed
all 9 upstream tests passed
focused no-network lint passed
corrected stale runtime version reporting to exactly 5.0.1
fresh-HOME smoke verified bidirectional protocol traffic with a loopback fake MUD
no public MUD server was contacted
