Candidate

User-facing deliverable

TinTin-style terminal MUD client supporting TLS and MCCP on Unix-like systems.

Packaging approach

Package a pinned commit with cmake-build-system, system curses/readline/compression/TLS libraries, and an offline protocol/parser smoke test.

Known blockers and investigation points

No tagged GitHub release; confirm optional libraries and the preferred installed command/resource layout.

Acceptance checks

  • Pin an immutable upstream release or commit and record a real Guix source hash.
  • Build without network access using Guix-provided dependencies; do not download runtimes or plugins during the build.
  • Preserve all applicable project and bundled-component license notices.
  • Verify the installed launcher/version output and run an offline protocol smoke test against a local fake MUD endpoint where the platform permits it.
  • Keep profiles, logs, maps, plugins, and other mutable state outside the store.

Existing-package coverage

Checked on 2026-08-22 against GNU Guix, Nonguix, Guix Science, Guix HPC, Guix Past, Guix R Us, and RDE, plus all states of this repository issue tracker. No same-upstream package or existing ticket was found. GNU Guix already packages TinTin++ and POWWOW; this candidate is distinct.

Implemented and published in signed commit 181351aae9e89c3c637ad2ba16388738160edc14.

Evidence:

  • Pins upstream commit 9151634296e0591d918a4fd39e743fb9bef68f16 as kbtin 0-20260801 with NAR hash 09q0kr230sr6inv76rwj9xisxsvwzjc9icyq9ymn54043jil0qyz (GPL-2.0-only).
  • Offline real build and reproducibility check passed all 89 CTest tests.
  • Output: /gnu/store/ajx7f5a6ain2ash54wxxsp9xnaxmyaiw-kbtin-0-20260801.
  • GnuTLS is patched to load the package-owned Mozilla CA bundle explicitly, so TLS works without host /etc/ssl/certs.
  • Fresh-HOME loopback smoke verifies Telnet negotiation/roundtrip, a private-CA TLS success, and rejection of an untrusted certificate before queued data. It contacts no public MUD.
  • Focused no-network lint and independent review passed.
