Candidate

User-facing deliverable

Cross-platform Java graphical MUD client.

Packaging approach

Identify the exact Java build tool/dependency graph, package it offline, and install a JVM launcher plus desktop entry.

Known blockers and investigation points

Sparse release/test evidence; verify toolkit dependencies and current JDK compatibility.

Acceptance checks

  • Pin an immutable upstream release or commit and record a real Guix source hash.
  • Build without network access using Guix-provided dependencies; do not download runtimes or plugins during the build.
  • Preserve all applicable project and bundled-component license notices.
  • Verify the installed launcher/version output and run an offline protocol smoke test against a local fake MUD endpoint where the platform permits it.
  • Keep profiles, logs, maps, plugins, and other mutable state outside the store.

Existing-package coverage

Checked on 2026-08-22 against GNU Guix, Nonguix, Guix Science, Guix HPC, Guix Past, Guix R Us, and RDE, plus all states of this repository issue tracker. No same-upstream package or existing ticket was found. GNU Guix already packages TinTin++ and POWWOW; this candidate is distinct.

Implemented and published in signed commit 181351aae9e89c3c637ad2ba16388738160edc14.

Evidence:

  • Pins upstream commit 2ea2e6bac49aa96781d726f7b3c14bd5fbc7c141 and recursive JUtilities submodule 564dd18b6c8e034b912a04dc73f621ec479c62b3, with NAR hash 122krjqldbv1m8dvdx30kvfdmawhkib1qvmdmm78vfa3r0slcz26.
  • Builds fully offline with Ant and OpenJDK 17, with no Maven/Gradle dependency downloads.
  • License correction: all 167 Java source files support GPL-3.0-or-later, not the issue's original GPL-3.0-only classification; both license notices are installed.
  • Reproducibility build passed. Output: /gnu/store/j7flfsx5fqkxppim7jqws7a7s782sxm4-secretpathway-1.0.0-0.2ea2e6b.
  • Fresh-HOME Xvfb smoke verifies Swing startup and exact loopback Telnet WILL ECHO to DONT ECHO behavior. An independent run also passed in a loopback-only network namespace. It contacts no public MUD.
  • Focused no-network lint and independent review passed.
