Candidate

  • Canonical upstream: https://github.com/tmud/tortilla
  • Packaging target: 1.22 (2022-04-16)
  • Category: MUD client
  • Tags: mud-client, desktop, Windows, Wine, Russian-language, MCCP, MSDP, plugins
  • Primary language/build ecosystem: C/C++, Visual Studio/Windows APIs, Lua plugins
  • License: NOASSERTION; no project license or redistribution grant found in the source tree
  • License evidence: https://github.com/tmud/tortilla
  • Expected Guix packaging difficulty: blocked; expected hard after licensing

User-facing deliverable

Russian-language Windows MUD client with triggers, plugins, MCCP/MSDP/MTTS, speech, and profile support; upstream documents Wine use on Linux.

Packaging approach

Obtain a compatible license, then investigate a source-built MinGW/Wine package and audit bundled plugin/media dependencies.

Known blockers and investigation points

No clear license grant and Windows-specific source/build system; a reproducible Wine wrapper and writable profile test are required.

Acceptance checks

  • Pin an immutable upstream release or commit and record a real Guix source hash.
  • Build without network access using Guix-provided dependencies; do not download runtimes or plugins during the build.
  • Preserve all applicable project and bundled-component license notices.
  • Verify the installed launcher/version output and run an offline protocol smoke test against a local fake MUD endpoint where the platform permits it.
  • Keep profiles, logs, maps, plugins, and other mutable state outside the store.

Existing-package coverage

Checked on 2026-08-22 against GNU Guix, Nonguix, Guix Science, Guix HPC, Guix Past, Guix R Us, and RDE, plus all states of this repository issue tracker. No same-upstream package or existing ticket was found. GNU Guix already packages TinTin++ and POWWOW; this candidate is distinct.

Closing as not planned because release 1.22 cannot currently be redistributed as a Guix package. Neither the main tree at cdea0f3409e9053763aad79fa01c719bce4dc579 nor required tmud/libs at beb26740969b3cae3456af2aeadc8987f2417cb6 supplies a project license. The build is Visual Studio/Windows-specific and bundled components still need provenance review.

Reopen when both projects receive explicit free-software redistribution licenses, bundled binary/media/audio components are removed or individually licensed, and upstream provides a source-complete build reproducible with MinGW and Wine without store writes.
