Candidate

  • Project: Tales of Middle Earth 2
  • Candidate upstream/homepage: https://github.com/tome2/tome2
  • Discovery evidence: Variant catalogs
  • Reported license: NOASSERTION
  • License status: needs authoritative upstream verification before packaging

Scope

Package the independently playable roguelike variant from source. The canonical repository, latest stable release, source hash, complete dependency closure, and relationship to parent games or sibling forks must be established before implementation. Do not substitute an opaque prebuilt binary.

Research checklist

  • Identify the canonical maintained source repository and immutable release/commit.
  • Verify the exact FOSS license for code and every installed font, tile, sound, map, documentation, and bundled dependency.
  • Check GNU Guix and the channel audit set for an equivalent same-upstream package.
  • Determine the offline build system and source closure, including submodules or language registries.
  • Identify updater, telemetry, runtime download, mutable-state, and network behavior that needs Guix integration.

Acceptance checks

  • guix lint -L . <package> has no package-specific findings.
  • guix build -L . --no-grafts <package> succeeds without network access or opaque binaries.
  • Upstream tests run where available, and guix build -L . --no-grafts --check <package> verifies reproducibility.
  • A fresh HOME/XDG smoke test starts a real local game, exercises meaningful gameplay or save/load behavior, and proves no store writes.
  • Installed license and third-party notices cover the shipped closure and assets.

## Candidate - Project: Tales of Middle Earth 2 - Candidate upstream/homepage: https://github.com/tome2/tome2 - Discovery evidence: [Variant catalogs](https://www.roguebasin.com/index.php/Category:Angband_variants) - Reported license: NOASSERTION - License status: needs authoritative upstream verification before packaging ## Scope Package the independently playable roguelike variant from source. The canonical repository, latest stable release, source hash, complete dependency closure, and relationship to parent games or sibling forks must be established before implementation. Do not substitute an opaque prebuilt binary. ## Research checklist - Identify the canonical maintained source repository and immutable release/commit. - Verify the exact FOSS license for code and every installed font, tile, sound, map, documentation, and bundled dependency. - Check GNU Guix and the channel audit set for an equivalent same-upstream package. - Determine the offline build system and source closure, including submodules or language registries. - Identify updater, telemetry, runtime download, mutable-state, and network behavior that needs Guix integration. ## Acceptance checks - `guix lint -L . <package>` has no package-specific findings. - `guix build -L . --no-grafts <package>` succeeds without network access or opaque binaries. - Upstream tests run where available, and `guix build -L . --no-grafts --check <package>` verifies reproducibility. - A fresh HOME/XDG smoke test starts a real local game, exercises meaningful gameplay or save/load behavior, and proves no store writes. - Installed license and third-party notices cover the shipped closure and assets. --- Imported from [GitHub issue/PR](https://github.com/htayj/guix-channel/issues/539). Goocastle recorded disposition: blocked.

Blocked. Canonical upstream is https://github.com/tome2/tome2 (ToME 2); latest stable tag v2.4.0-ah (2017-09-07) is commit 4e9b9c402ed95bf9a17fd6d795bc49bb4128a6fa. Fixed-tag evidence: there is no root LICENSE/COPYING; src/angband.h lines 4-9 and src/main-gcu.c lines 4-9 restrict copying/distribution to educational, research, and not-for-profit purposes (github.com/tome2/tome2@4e9b9c402e/src/angband.h (L4-L9)), and src/angband.h lines 84-89 prohibit selling/marketing without written consent. This is not an unconditional FOSS grant. Installed data includes maps, documentation, and fonts including lib/xtra/font/VeraMono.ttf and FNT files, but the fixed tag has no separate clear asset license/provenance; src/main-sdl.c contains an MIT notice only for that port. README and CMake establish source build via CMake 3.1/C++14 and make with Boost 1.54+ system/filesystem required, optional X11/SDL/GTK2/Curses, and vendored bandit/fmt/pcg-cpp/jsoncons. No existing tome2 equivalent was found in a focused local channel scan. Unblock only when upstream copyright holders provide a clear FOSS redistribution grant for the core, every shipped asset, and each bundled origin at a fixed revision; then an offline Guix closure and meaningful safe runtime contract must be proved. The Guix daemon is unavailable here, so no package proof is claimed.
