Candidate

  • Project: Urban Warfare: The Escape
  • Candidate upstream/homepage: http://common-lisp.net/project/lifp/uwar.htm
  • Discovery evidence: IRLDb
  • Reported license: BSD
  • License status: reported free license; verify exact terms and asset coverage against the pinned upstream source
  • Catalog note: IRLDb status: 7drl.

Scope

Package the independently playable roguelike from source. The canonical repository, latest stable release, source hash, complete dependency closure, and relationship to parent games or sibling forks must be established before implementation. Do not substitute an opaque prebuilt binary.

Research checklist

  • Identify the canonical maintained source repository and immutable release/commit.
  • Verify the exact FOSS license for code and every installed font, tile, sound, map, documentation, and bundled dependency.
  • Check GNU Guix and the channel audit set for an equivalent same-upstream package.
  • Determine the offline build system and source closure, including submodules or language registries.
  • Identify updater, telemetry, runtime download, mutable-state, and network behavior that needs Guix integration.

Acceptance checks

  • guix lint -L . <package> has no package-specific findings.
  • guix build -L . --no-grafts <package> succeeds without network access or opaque binaries.
  • Upstream tests run where available, and guix build -L . --no-grafts --check <package> verifies reproducibility.
  • A fresh HOME/XDG smoke test starts a real local game, exercises meaningful gameplay or save/load behavior, and proves no store writes.
  • Installed license and third-party notices cover the shipped closure and assets.

Canonical upstream is the official release page http://common-lisp.net/project/lifp/uwar.htm; it declares Urban Warfare: The Escape 0.8 as latest, released 2007-04-20. Fetched fixed origins are tar.gz SHA-256 1b59105f149ed932c6a47fc75debc2957e3181b81492fbcba59d08fcdc1f55e5 and source-only zip SHA-256 1faa4f92289b27a072861d32ae4d9453e13d7bef288e2c844e1cc4dc878961d7. The archive is flat and contains only controls.cfg, curses.lisp, license.txt, readme.txt, uwar.asd, uwar.lisp, and a bundled stripped 32-bit i386 GNU CLISP executable linking libncurses.so.5; there are no submodules, fonts, tiles, sounds, maps, documentation, or other third-party bundled assets. license.txt is BSD 3-Clause with copyright 2007 Timofei Shatrov, covering the supplied source and assets in that single-origin release. uwar.asd declares dependencies CFFI, trivial-gray-streams, and MD5, and the source imports those Common Lisp systems; exact system versions/upstreams and their fixed-source license evidence remain unresolved. The local channel has no existing urban-warfare/uwar package or lifp equivalent. This phase cannot perform a Guix build because the host-provided boundary says no Guix daemon is available; source-build viability was assessed from upstream metadata. Blocking prerequisite: there is no documented or source-discovered noninteractive, deterministic invocation. uwar.lisp's start-game immediately initializes ncurses, displays a splash, generates a map, and loops in interactive input; no CLI modes, test system, headless flag, replay input, or stdout success path exists. Because a required Guix runtime-proof contract cannot truthfully specify a real local-game invocation with a stdout marker, unattended package delivery is unsafe. This blocker can be removed only by authoritative evidence of an upstream headless/test/deterministic smoke mode, or by a reviewed delivery design adding a source-patched noninteractive entry point that exercises genuine startup/game state without changing the packaged interactive contract.
