Candidate

  • Project: Whispers in the Void
  • Candidate upstream/homepage: to be identified during research
  • Discovery evidence: IRLDb
  • Reported license: GPL
  • License status: reported free license; verify exact terms and asset coverage against the pinned upstream source
  • Catalog note: IRLDb status: 7drl.

Scope

Package the independently playable roguelike from source. The canonical repository, latest stable release, source hash, complete dependency closure, and relationship to parent games or sibling forks must be established before implementation. Do not substitute an opaque prebuilt binary.

Research checklist

  • Identify the canonical maintained source repository and immutable release/commit.
  • Verify the exact FOSS license for code and every installed font, tile, sound, map, documentation, and bundled dependency.
  • Check GNU Guix and the channel audit set for an equivalent same-upstream package.
  • Determine the offline build system and source closure, including submodules or language registries.
  • Identify updater, telemetry, runtime download, mutable-state, and network behavior that needs Guix integration.

Acceptance checks

  • guix lint -L . <package> has no package-specific findings.
  • guix build -L . --no-grafts <package> succeeds without network access or opaque binaries.
  • Upstream tests run where available, and guix build -L . --no-grafts --check <package> verifies reproducibility.
  • A fresh HOME/XDG smoke test starts a real local game, exercises meaningful gameplay or save/load behavior, and proves no store writes.
  • Installed license and third-party notices cover the shipped closure and assets.

Goocastle recorded disposition: blocked.

Blocked because no canonical maintained upstream repository, immutable release/commit, or other source-controlled origin for Whispers in the Void could be established. IRLDb record 47e013c identifies Destroysound, a Python 7DRL completed 2009-03-14, and reports GPL, but provides no download/homepage URL and only a generic GPL label. Authoritative GitHub repository search found no matching 2009 roguelike project among candidates for 'destroysound', 'whispers void roguelike', or 'whispers in the void' (only unrelated modern projects), and GitHub code search requires authentication; public DuckDuckGo results were unavailable due to bot verification. The discovery snapshot itself says that the candidate upstream/homepage is to be identified and that exact terms and asset coverage must be verified against pinned upstream source. Consequently there is no fixed revision at which to verify code, fonts, sounds, maps, documentation, bundled dependencies, or redistribution rights, nor authoritative build/runtime metadata from which to construct the source closure or a meaningful isolated runtime contract. Unblocking requires an authoritative source or archived distribution origin (for example an author-published source archive, 7DRL contest source artifact, or clearly documented canonical mirror) plus its fixed revision/hash and exact license/asset evidence; then the complete dependency closure, build metadata, and noninteractive smoke contract can be researched and a package decision made.
